  • Kim Perkins Headshot

    KIM PERKINS

    Executive Director

    Kim is a nonprofit leader with 15+ years of experience advancing educational equity through strategic programs and operational excellence. She most recently served as Vice President of Programs at Helping Education, overseeing multi-state K–12 initiatives that supported thousands of students and educators.

    Her work centers on closing opportunity gaps and building high-performing, mission-driven teams. Kim holds a B.S. in Political Science from Florida State University and brings a versatile background in nonprofit leadership and program development.

  • Keith Cartwright

    KEITH CARTWRIGHT

    Senior Program Director

    Keith is a career educator holding an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership from Liberty University, a Master of Arts in Career Counseling from North Carolina Central University, and a Bachelor of Science Degree from North Carolina A&T State University.

    He has 20 years of experience in the education and non-profit sector having worked with students  from middle school through post secondary education.  That experience includes program development and management, budget and grant development and management, and coaching.

  • KYLE GOODFELLOW

    Director of Development & Communications

    Kyle serves as the Director of Development & Communications at GenOne where he leads all fundraising, marketing and communications efforts for the organization. His career has centered around fundraising, storytelling, and strategic partnership development in college access, higher education, social innovation, and entrepreneurship. As a former college student affairs professional, Kyle has long been passionate about supporting young people to achieve their dreams of postsecondary education and economic mobility.

  • BIANCA S. HUCKABEY

    Director of College Advising and Persistence

    Bianca is a first-generation college student who graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor’s in Human Development and Family Studies. She later earned a Master’s degree in Urban Studies, with a focus on Urban Education, from Southern Connecticut State University.

    Passionate about community programming for youth, and inspired by impactful educators, she pursued a Post Graduate degree in School Counseling and a Graduate Certificate in Intermediate Administration from Sacred Heart University.

  • LONTINA BRADFORD

    Director of College & Career Readiness

    Lontina is our Program Manager, where she leads the development and execution of the mentorship program and scholar curriculum. She is also building out our after-school programs for middle and high school students.

    She attended the State University of New York at Cortland, graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology. Lontina recently earned her Master’s Degree in Youth Studies from the City University of New York School of Professional Studies.

  • DAVE WALSH

    Technology & Operations Manager

    Dave has worked in several diverse fields during his career, including Outdoor Experiential Education, Small Business Consulting, Human Resources, Project Management, and HealthCare Information Technology. The common thread in all these roles has been helping individuals, teams, and organizations grow and improve.

    He is a passionate supporter of the GenOne mission and works mostly behind the scenes, ensuring operations and technology run smoothly.

  • ALICIA BUSBY

    College Preparation Manager

    Alicia is a first-generation college student who attended Fayetteville State University, where she received her undergraduate degree in Middle Grades Education, specializing in Language Arts. Alicia has taught at several schools across North Carolina and has over 8 years of experience growing students.

    She is passionate about building positive relationships with her students and being a positive role model in their lives.

  • MEL CASTANEDA

    College Persistence Coordinator

    Mel is a first-generation Latina who graduated from UNC Charlotte where she received both her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Latin American Studies. She has over 5 years of experience in the nonprofit sector working with recently arrived immigrant and refugee families as well as high school students during her time at South Mecklenburg High School.

    Mel is committed to educational equity and passionate about supporting first-generation youth in their post-secondary journeys.
